Welcome...

In 1971, three physicians dedicated to the emerging specialty of Emergency Medicine, founded HEPA, Hawaii Emergency Physicians Associated. The doctors’ aim was to improve the quality of emergency medical care in the State of Hawaii.

Later, HEPA physicians founded, and became officers of, the Hawaii Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP). Our doctors continue to lead active roles in Hawaii’s Emergency Medical Services, several state legislative committees, and the Hawaii Medical Association.

The group’s stable presence and leadership has positioned HEPA as the preeminent emergency physician group in Hawaii. We live in, and understand, Hawaii’s culture and community. Two HEPA physicians currently serve as Chiefs of Staff-Elect at their respective hospitals.

HEPA’s original founders have retired, but the group continues to thrive and evolve. We are dedicated to nurturing the next generation of quality emergency physicians and to meeting the ever-changing healthcare challenges of our time.

Today’s HEPA is an independent, democratic and physician-owned group consisting of 25 board-certified physicians. We believe that doctors working together as joint owners can achieve far more than they might individually.

Our years of experience have proven that local ownership, combined with practice management support, creates the best structure for the teamwork needed to provide timely, cost effective, and high-quality emergency care.
